Ep. 73 - The Ouija Board

The Ouija Board, also known as a spirit or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0-9, the words "yes", "no, and "goodbye", and is used to communicate with the spirits of those that have died. With the aid of a small heart-shaped device called a planchette, you can ask the spirits a question, and they supposedly answer by centering the planchette on the various letters, numbers, or words on the board. The spiritualist movement, which began in the 1850's, believed that the spirits of the dead exist and have both the ability and the inclination to communicate with the living, which led to the popularity of these spirit boards to contact the unknown. Many have believed that they have interacted with the spirits of the departed, some for many years, while others have felt that the entity that they were communicating with, wasn't a spirit, but something much more evil. Is it possible to commune with the spirits of those that have passed on through the use of a Ouija Board, or is it simply an unconscious response by the user, as the scientific community believes?
