Ep. 74 - Building Better Brains Through Supplements - with Roy Krebs

from The Rebel Health Coach · host Thom Underwood with Roy Krebs

“There’s an herb for every system, every organ, every gland, and every tissue of our body. Mother nature has put medicine in our food.” – Bob Marley   I love this quote from Bob Marley because it really speaks to something we’ve become disconnected from — the healing power of food! But the foods we eat today, no matter how clean we eat, are depleted of many of the minerals and nutrients we need for our bodies to function optimally. That’s why, as a functional medicine health coach, supplements are one of my go-to tools in reversing disease.   But not all supplements are made equal — because, unlike drugs, supplements are unregulated by the FDA!   So I sat down with Roy Krebs, co-founder and CEO of NaturalStacks, the world’s first open-source supplement company. As the leader of NaturalStacks, Roy is passionate about maintaining transparency in labeling and honest sourcing of all ingredients. Roy’s here today to share details about the different ways you can optimize your brain health and performance naturally, as well as the possible benefits and drawbacks of supplements.   Roy is on a mission to build a billion better brains, and one of the most popular kinds of supplements these days are Nootropics, which are often called smart drugs or cognitive enhancers because they can improve things like memory, creativity, or motivation.   NaturalStack offers the CILTEP Nootropic, a product I personally use, which is basically a mix of artichoke extract and forskolin. The formula is designed to induce long-term potentiation (LTP) in the brain, which is involved in the formation of new memories and the strengthening of neural synapses. It’s pretty remarkable — but, like Marley said, mother nature made this medicine available to us.   In addition to enhancing motivation and mental clarity, supplements can also improve your emotional state and sleep. Roy uses the analogy of a car to explain how the different supplements affect the brain.   He says there are four main neurotransmitters in our brain: dopamine is the gas, acetylcholine is the accelerator, GABA is the breaks, and serotonin the alternator. The goal is to achieve a balance in these, which is why NaturalStacks bundles four supplement formulations together in the Brain Food Box to specifically target those four neurotransmitters.   And, like I said, these supplements are completely open source, so you can read exactly what’s in each one of them.   --     Resources: Learn more at at NaturalStacks.com (Use code REBEL for 25% off your first order) Listen: Optimal...
