Ep. 757 Kelly Specht | It's Okay to not be Okay

from Rounding The Bases With Joel Goldberg · host Joel Goldberg

Mental health is a conversation Joel has had many times on Rounding the Bases because of its importance. A startling one in five people will struggle with mental health during their lifetime. That’s twenty percent of the population. Yet still, a stigma remains and resources are lacking compared to traditional healthcare. Kelly Specht has made it her life’s work to raise mental health awareness. On June 23, 2017, Kelly's oldest son Carl took his own life. He was an All-American kind of guy with brains, brawn and enviable career success, but this illness doesn’t discriminate. Carl’s Cause was born, and his parents Kelly and Bob set out to raise awareness about mental health. Four years later, they’ve raised more than $350,000 and saved countless lives by reminding us that it’s okay not to be okay, and help is just a phone call away.
