Ep. 76: Silence in the Face of Evil?
from The Hammer Podcast · host Redeeming Grace Baptist Church
Cold open with Russell Moore and Morning Joe. Why we didn’t do a podcast last week. Further discussion on Sunday’s Sermon and the importance of learning from Christians who came before us, like Bonhoeffer. “Yes I am a Christian, I believe it’s all about Jesus, but how am I suppose to navigate the politics around us?” The recent history of Bonhoeffer, Nazi Germany and the German Christians can be very instructive. Will we be one of the tormented souls, looking back wishing we stood up and spoke out in the face of evil? Brief discussion on Francis Schaffer, the moral majority and progressive Christians. How did we get to the state of apathy and being “apolitical” as Christians? How to maintain hope in the current environment? In light of another domino falling with Ray Ortlund’s tweet and then deleted tweet. Ortlund, not so surprisingly, has been one of Russell Moore’s pastors. Why do we feel the burden to preach and teach the way we do? What is the proper way to rest in God’s sovereignty and providence (working hard, but trusting God with the results)? The inquisition: Should pastors be brought under church discipline or held accountable for their political views?
