From Gabrielle: My Gold Award Project addressed the issue of improving math proficiency and content mastery (achieving a level necessary for the next grade level) for 6th Grade students in Georgia middle schools and beyond. Additionally, it addressed the impact of school closures, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on students' ability to improve math proficiency and content mastery. Since the age of ten, I have asked friends and family to forgo giving me birthday presents and instead provide school supplies, cash, or gift card donations to Lindley Sixth Grade Academy, a local public school. I also established and registered a non- profit foundation, 40 Mustard Seeds, with the Georgia Secretary of State. The primary purpose of the foundation is to provide tools such as school supplies and tutoring in person or virtual in the area of math.
