We need to have a little heart to heart! I want to correct your perspective on many of the service-based business owners you see speaking. When seeing them on the stage at industry events, it's easy to get caught up in the glamor and instantly start to assume that this is something that is working so well for them. They're getting tons of exposure and they certainly must be getting a lot of clients from it, right? Speaking must be this awesome thing that has them rolling in the money! The reality is most business owners who are high dollar service providers seldom effectively turn a profit from these speaking engagements.

If you've been around here for a while, I'm sure you've heard me talk a lot about using speaking to grow your online programs, courses and digital products, but what if you don't have any of that setup yet? Should you wait to start speaking or is now the right time to dive in? This episode is about making the most of monetizing these events.

If you loved this episode and it motivated you to add speaking to your business, please take the time to leave me some positive feedback on iTunes. I'd also love to hear about your biggest takeaway. Take a screenshot of you listening on your device, post it to your Instagram Stories and tag us @thecreativespeakerpodcast.

Episode takeaways you don't want to miss:

  • A lot of service providers speaking at industry events do not have a passive revenue offering in place. This is one of the main drivers behind them spending more money than they're making on these speaking engagements
  • The number one reason that most people are not able to grow their business with speaking is that they're agreeing to speak on the wrong topics for their business
    • When you go into speaking without a clear strategy, you end up saying yes to opportunities that don't necessarily serve your business
  • Another reason that most people are not able to grow their business with speaking is that their talk is not crafted to lead their audience back to a paying offering
  • You want to make sure that you craft your talk in a very strategic way that is not only going to teach your audience something incredibly valuable but empowers them to make the decision that it's something they need to take action on
  • Before you speak at your next industry event:
    • Manage expectations (what the organizer and your audience want)
    • Know what you can and can't take on
    • Prep your business for inquiries
    • Have a solid waitlist process

  • Start creating a passive offer to help your clients start getting results even if you can't take them on! ← The EPISODE GOLD!!

  • When speaking at an event, set up a separate way for them to inquire about working with you. You want a new page, contact form, or new landing page so that you can track how many leads/inquiries and traffic is coming directly from that speaking engagement. This is going to help you see if speaking is going to be profitable for your business.

NATO’s Road to Madrid Center for Strategic and International Studies | CSIS Hosted by Max Bergmann, director of the CSIS Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program, “NATO’s Road to Madrid” explores how the United States’ most important alliance is approaching a critical process it has not undertaken since 2010: updating its Strategic Concept. The last time NATO endorsed a formal strategy, Russia had not invaded Ukraine, China was not yet thought to be a challenge meriting NATO attention, and defense planners were only beginning to look at the military implications of climate change, hybrid warfare, and other challenges. The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has underscored the enduring importance of NATO. This podcast series will examine all these subjects, as well as how challenges from inside the alliance complicate its ability to respond effectively. Along the way, the series will try to help make sense of the inner workings of NATO, which are often opaque from the outside.
