While in Australia he became National Education Officer for a major charity organization affiliated with the FAO, and established the ideas centre, an education initiative that brought Third World voices and viewpoints into classrooms across the county.  Upon his return to Canada he met his life partner Shera on an island in the west of Canada. Together they built a fairy-tale cedar “castle” which became Serenity by the Sea Retreat. For 26 years in a program called The Next Step, people facing a turning point in their lives could reconnect with their passion and empower themselves to restart their lives.
