Ep. 8- Boldly Unpopular: Navigating the Seas of Disapproval

from Boundaries Unleashed: Reclaiming Your Self-Care with Vicki Pittman · host Vicki Pittman: Creator of The LEAP Coaching Program

Welcome to Episode 8: Boldly Unpopular: Navigating the Seas of Disapproval. In today's episode, we dive into the often overlooked third phase of setting boundaries for the first time – the Recovery and Acclimation Phase. We live in a world where decisions are questioned, convictions are tested, and not everyone will understand the importance of your choices. This phase is uncomfortable, often leading to a backslide in boundaries or preventing future ones due to the fear of disapproval. As recovering people-pleasers, the discomfort of being challenged or disliked can feel like the end of the world. We explore the mental and emotional challenges, including self-judgment, the fight/flight/freeze response, and the pervasive feeling of being a "horrible person" for having needs. I discuss practical strategies to navigate discomfort, such as having a trusted partner for support, learning self-management and resiliency skills, and strengthening your spiritual game. By intentionally accepting being boldly unpopular, you can move through disapproval with confidence.
