Ep 8: William Charles "Pete" Fikes

from Unforgotten · host Alabama Cold Case Advocacy

In February of 2023, Georgia officials positively identified remains discovered in Chambers County as 22-year-old Kyle Clinkscales.  Clinkscales and his Pinto Roundabout vanished 47 years ago on a trip from LaGrange, GA, back to Auburn University.  In 2021, Clinkscales' car was discovered in a creek in Chambers County with remains and belongings still inside. To read more about Kyle's case, see "The Remains of a Son Missing for Nearly 50 Years are Identified," The New York Times  41-year-old William Charles "Pete" Fikes left his grandmother's Jasper home around 9:00 or 9:30 am on November 29, 1976, in his father's 1972 Plymouth Valiant and was never seen or heard from again.  In the four years after his disappearance, the Fikes' car was located almost an hour away when a Jasper PD happened to stumble upon a forged bill of sale dated one day after Pete was last seen, and dried blood was allegedly found in the car; the upper portion of a human skull was located near a Sipsey dump site that had been previously searched, which state officials later identified as matching Pete; and Perry Mixon, who may have been in jail at the time of Pete's disappearance, was arrested on robbery-murder charges that don't appear to have ever moved forward.
