S3, Ep. 3: An Inside Look with Lt. Versiga - Pt 2
In December 1978, twenty-year-old Debra Gunter vanished from the Li’l General store where she worked the overnight shift in Gautier, Mississippi. Days later, her body was discovered miles away in rural Alabama. Sellers & Stormy share Debra’s story, uncovering long-buried details and connecting with investigator Lt. Darren Versiga, whose renewed look at the case may finally shed light on what happened that night. This is more than a mystery—it’s the story of a young woman who deserves to be remembered. In this episode of Unforgotten, we sit down with Lt. Darren Versiga, a Pascagoula Police Department investigator known for his work on cold cases across the Gulf Coast. Together, we take a deep dive into the 1978 unsolved murder of Debra Gunter, examining how the investigation unfolded then, what’s known now, and what modern investigative practices could reveal that simply wasn’t possible at the time.Lt. Versiga brings decades of experience to the conversation—offering expert insight into victimology, evidence handling, and the obstacles investigators face when working cases that are nearly 50 years old. His perspective helps us understand not just Debra’s case, but the broader challenges of solving violent crimes from an era when documentation, forensic tools, and interagency communication looked very different from today. This is an episode for anyone who wants to understand how cold case investigations work behind the scenes—and why renewed public awareness may be the key to finally getting justice for Debra.Got information? 📞Contact Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 228-769-3063 or through their mobile app, available for download here. 📞Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers via telephone at 877-787-5898 or through their website.📱Text or call our tip line at 251-501-COLD (2653)📧Email [email protected] 💻Submit using our contact form on alcoldcase.com.Ways to donate to Operation Safe ReturnText OSR to 53555 to receive a donation link.Donate directly at givebutter.com/operationsafereturn.Learn more at alcoldcase.com/operation-safe-return.#DebraGunter #Gautier #JacksonCounty #Mississippi #McIntosh #WashingtonCounty #Alabama #AlabamaColdCaseAdvocacy #unforgotten #NoMoreColdCases #IfYouKnowSomethingSaySomething #SilenceIsBetrayal #truecrimecommunity #acca #bethesparkAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

S2 Ep 5: Stephen Pearson, Part 1
Thanks for waiting on us! Stormy started a new job (aside from ACCA), and it derailed the editing schedule a bit. We begin by discussing the unfortunate outcome of Brittany Robinson's father's murder trial. And then we bring you the long-awaited case of Stephen Pearson from Grand Bay, AL.On December 27, 2000, when Stephen Pearson signed for a misdelivered package to help a postal worker, he couldn’t have known it would set off a chain of events that would end in mystery, suspicion—and silence. The package? Ten pounds of marijuana.Stephen’s reaction? He told the neighbors they had to report it… or he would.Days later, Stephen vanished without a trace. In Part 1, we take you back to the beginning—to who Stephen was, what he said, and how his final days unraveled like a slow-burning fuse. You’ll hear never-before-released details, quotes from those closest to him, and insight from the very investigator who’s carried this case for more than two decades.Because someone knows the truth… and someone made sure Stephen never came back.If you have any information regarding Stephen’s case:📞Text or call our tip line at 251-501-COLD (2653), EXT. 3📬Email [email protected] Submit using our contact form on alcoldcase.com.#StephenPearson #Missing #GrandBayAL #AlabamaThank you to Sheriff Burch and Investigator Mitch McRae of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office for their unrelenting efforts for Stephen and many more, and for collaborating with ACCA to bring greater awareness to Stephen’s case.Voices For Victims 5K - VOCAL is this weekend - you can still sign up!!Don’t forget we still have a few t-shirts left in our merch store. S2 Ep2: Mary Faye Hunter
In this episode, we bring you the 1967 mysterious and unsolved homicide of Mary Faye Hunter from Decatur in Morgan County, Alabama. Like so many cases, there’s little left of the original investigation. And, though officially open, the case is not active except by her only living relative, a nephew, Jamie Hunter, along with his friend and researcher/author Brad Golson. We share some audio clips from an interview with this duo as well as an interview with the then very young girls, who found Mary Faye’s remains. There are many resources and theories about her murder and we’ll share some of these resources below. But a good Google search will bring you a treasure trove of information. But our hope is as long as we and all of you out there keep Mary Faye’s story alive, that someone will come forward and finally give her and her family resolution. #MaryFayeHunter #WhatHappenedToMaryFayeHunter MorganCountyAL #DecaturAL If you have information regarding Mary Faye Hunter’s murder please come forward through any of the following ways:Decatur Police Department, (256) 341-4635Morgan County Sheriff's Department, (256) 301-1174Our new tip line, (251) 501-COLD (2653)[email protected] ACCA contact formSpecial thanks to:James (Jamie) Hunter and Brad Golson for their audio clips and in-depth research over the years. The Jamie Hunter Podcast Episode #3 Brad Golson - Mary Faye Hunter Jan 29, 2023Finding Mary Faye Hunter: The Real Story -Golson Custom Video Oct 23, 2018And WHNT 52 for their story in October 201952-years-later-family-of-murdered-decatur-woman-still-searching-for-answers/Other resources/mentions:alcoldcase.com Light the Path T-Shirts Vote NappiesVOCAL 2025 National Crime Victims' Rights Week Events FacebookGlow in the Bark Golf Tournament benefiting Jackson County K-9 Search, Rescue, and Recoveryhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_County,_Alabamahttps://encyclopediaofalabama.org/article/morgan-county/ACCA S2E2 Mary Faye Hunter Resource Links G-Drive#Murdered #IfYouKnowSomethingSaySomething #SilenceIsBetrayal #BeTheSpark #Alabama #NoMoreColdCases #LightThePathAlabama Cold Case Advocacy (ACCA) & the Unforgotten podcast are products of countless hours of researching and networking, aimed to bring greater exposure to the cases we share. Ep 26, Pt 3: Mont Highley, IV
In November of 2003, Mont Highley’s life was full of possibilities and adventure. He’d recently interviewed with a North Carolina company and was awaiting their hiring decision, the holidays and family time were upon him, and he was looking forward to spending time hunting with his father on Saturday after spending Thanksgiving with his family. On that Friday evening, November 28, the night before their planned father-son hunting time, Mont said his goodbyes and left his parents’ home for their Shorter, AL camp they nicknamed “the farm.” It would be the last time they would see or speak to him. Shock and grief would fall upon the Highley family when he’s found murdered 6 weeks later, only a few short miles from the farm. In this final episode of our three-part series, we delve deep into the aftermath of Mont's disappearance and the shocking discovery of his murder just a few short miles from "the farm." Join us as we continue our conversation with #CaptainScottBonner from #VoyagerLabs, shedding light on the additional background of this chilling case. #MontHighleyIV #ShorterAL #MaconCounty #MontgomeryCounty #UnsolvedHomicide #ColdCase #WhoKilledMont #JusticeForMontHighleyIV #ABI If you have any information regarding the murder of Mont Highley, please contact the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation at 334-676-7870, the SBI crime hotline at 800-392-8011, or you can also submit an anonymous tip on their website.
