from Schurtz and Ties: A podcast about education and culture · host Schurtz&Ties

It has not only changed us all, it has directly impacted our schools and classrooms. In this episode, Kasey and Brian break down Social Engagement - what it is and what it isn't - and provide tangible ways educators can instantly and intentionally provide a space for students to safely and appropriately socially engage with each other. - Focus on first interactions; Focus on last interactions - Create shared agreements - Make it feel like a welcoming community gathering space - Create opportunities for rich conversations; Demonstrate how to start and end conversations; Demonstrate how to listen well - Combine structure and choice in who students talk to Types of Engagement Intellectual-”constructing new knowledge” with high order tasks Physical-participating in purposeful motions and physical activities that directly connect to the content Cultural-various cultures feel accepted, the environment does not class with cultures or make particular cultures feel unwelcome.
