EP 83: Elk down! Now What? Meat Care After the Kill - InSights Edition

from ElkBros Blue Collar Elk Hunting · host Gilbert Ornelas, Joe Giglia, Leroy 'Chav" Chavez & RC Knox

If you plan on being successful on your elk hunt, then there is one more thing you had better be planning for... getting your meat off the mountain! It seems that we are getting so many questions these days. Questions about mistakes to avoid when field dressing your elk. Or, whether you even need to even field dress? How long before meat will go bad? When to hang meat or not to hang it? What to do if you get back to your base camp and your ice is gone? Each of us wants to honor both the hunt and the animal by being as ethical and responsible as possible when it comes to the harvest of our kill. So this is an episode that you don't want to miss! On Today’s Edition of Blue Collar Elk Hunting, Elk Hunting Coach Joe Giglia is joined by Jason Nauert, known by most as Jason the Butcher. Jason is a professional butcher, elk hunter and outdoor specialist that instructs military and civilians survival processing of wild and domestic animals. We promise you this, Jason knows his stuff.  In this episode, you are about to get some incredible content and discussions concerning mistakes and misunderstandings when it comes to field care of your elk. Discussions on techniques, hunter scenarios and incredible insights into things that Joe himself had thought to be either gospel or taboo when it came to care of elk after the kill. Y’all, there is power in knowledge and let us tell you, this show brings it. In light hearted interviews with Sir Issac Newton, Adolf Hitler, Isaac Asimov, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, William Shakespeare, Joan of Arc, and Kilgore Trout, among others - Vonnegut trips down “the blue tunnel to the pearly gates” in the guise of a roving reporter for public radio, all the while dodging the crotchety bureaucrat, Saint Peter.Kurt Vonnegut: Reporter on the Afterlife, began in 1999 as a series of 90 Second interludes for WNYC, New York City’s public radio station.
