We’ve got big St. Louis energy on the pod this week! No, we’re not, at long last, discussing Chingy’s iconic 2003 effort “Jackpot”. Still waiting on that one. But we *are* talking to St. Louisan, multi-hyphenate film professional, and all-around gem of a human being Alex “ATM” Mitchell. ATM and Tyler met playing D&D with their mutual friend Max Bieber and Tyler knew she’d be an excellent guest when she handled the AUX cord while driving the crew out to a California superbloom a while back. This feeling was further validated by the bangers she nominated for consideration before the tribunal and we just had to let her make her case for The Internet’s outstanding 2015 album “Ego Death”. Guided by the steady hand of Syd of Odd Future fame, The Internet’s sound can be reasonably described as “alternative R&B and soul”, but it really does contain multitudes. Syd, Steve Lacy, Matt Martians, and company give life to slick, sexy soundscapes that are as danceable as they are “chillable”. This is music that could soundtrack the coolest party you’ve ever been lucky enough to attend, as Michael puts it. ATM builds her case for this album’s perfection by eloquently relating how the timing of her discovery and the soothing, calming quality of the music were truly just what the doctor ordered. It’s calming without putting you to sleep, it’s sexy-hot without feeling like you have to turn it off when your parents are in the car. This album can fit just about any occasion and ATM makes one hell of a case for why it deserves inclusion in the TOGT11 pantheon.
