Ep.84 The Center for Neuromusculoskeletal Clinical Research – Clarence Nicodemus, PhD, DO

from The Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Podcast · host Benjamin Greene, MHS, Lic, D.O. and Jordan Little, DO

In this conversation we spoke about the Center for Neuromusculoskeletal Center for Research at MSU. As practitioners who use OMT, we do not simply improve joint mobility, release muscle and fascial tension. We also engage the central nervous system of the person we are treating. This interaction and feedback system is quite difficult to measure. What about other tests such as the stork test, the standing and seated flexion test, how do these work and what information do they give us? There is no question many patients’ benefit from the work we do. At the same time, it is easy to not be intellectually curious and challenge our treatment techniques when patients are getting better and praising our work. On the flip side what about those patients that did not get better or fell off our schedule. What did we do wrong, why was it not helpful? Perhaps Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine is one of the best kept secrets in medicine. Part of the goal of this podcast is to expose this secret, but there is much groundwork we need to do to better quantify our work, but at this point in time not all of it seems to be quantifiable.
