In honor of Halloween, our month of Horror continues. In this episode we're discussing what the hell happened to monsters. Once upon a time monsters ruled the movies - monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Mr. Hyde and even big beasts that swallowed whole towns like King Kong and Godzilla. But somewhere along the way they became played out. At least that's how it seems. It's not enough to just have some big scary thing show up in a movie and expect everyone to gasp or let out a collective "Whoa!!" It requires more than a CGI monster to bust through a desensitized audience. Sure, it takes real practical innovation and a twist on the old to keep us guessing, but there has to be more.
