Ten years ago Mattie Batchelor rode Carruthers to win the Hennessy Gold Cup, now the Ladbrokes Trophy on an emotional day at Newbury racecourse. In this podcast Mattie relives the day when the 8 year Carruthers, a horse bred by Lord Oaksey won the historic race. Mattie gives an entertaining insight into his early days with Charlie Moore including an incredible day when he won a flat race and a handicap chase on the same day. He also fondly recalls riding Coneygree, a future Cheltenham Gold winner during his time riding for Mark and Sarah Bradstock.
