EP 95: Philippines- Tribes of Mindanao part 2

This is the second instalment in the Mindanao folk tales.  In story one, the story of Lumabet, a god like man who finally turns into an owl. Lots of twists and turns in this wonderful tale. (Bagobo) In story two, we learn about Melu, who through his skin shavings, creates man. But Tau Tana puts their noses on upside down and the people almost drowned. Finally, Melu made everything right again. (Bilaan) In story three, the four beings of the earth started to make humans out of wax, but that failed. So they tried again and made the humans, but turned the noses the wrong way. Luckily their noses were returned to the right side up. And thus humans were created. (Bilaan) In story four, the Limokon doves were as powerful as humans. On laid some eggs and a man was born. When he was in the river, he felt something brush against his leg. This was a hair from the woman up stream. So he went up to meet her and made the Mandaya people. (Mandaya) In story five, the Sun and the Moon are a couple, but they fight a lot. One of their children is a great crab, the other was one big star until his father cut him up and spread the stars across the sky. The great crab tries to eat the Moon, his mother, from time to time. It is only because of the people shouting that the Moon is saved. (Mandaya) And finally in story six, the son of the widow goes off to hunt pigs. He kills the pig that belongs to the spirit of the stone. The spirit of the stone is not mad at him and instead invites him to hang around. When the boy leaves, he meets seven warriors in seven colors. He fights them and then runs into a giant, whom he also fights and beats. Finally all of his rage is spent, and everyone is brought back to life. He marries one beautiful woman, and the spirit of the stone marries another.
