Ep. 99 Why We’re All Students Of Life & ‘It Ain’t Weak To Speak’, with Sam Webb From Livin

from Unbeatable You with Brett Robbo · host Unbeatable You with Brett Robbo

Sam Webb is the co-founder of the the mental health organisation and charity,Livin. The core of their mission is to break the stigma around mental health through fashion, events and the delivery of education programs into schools across Australia. Their motto is, “it aint weak to speak”. He’s also a professional speaker and  is passionate about helping people and organisations understand the importance of wellness and vulnerability. Sam is also an actor and has appeared on shows such as Neighbours and was a star on the reality TV show, Survivor. He’s really bold and passionate about pursuing his acting career massively and we chat about this a lot towards the end of this episode and we have a few good laughs ,as I  put him on the spot to practice his American accent for us. It was a cracker, because he’s got a good ol Aussie twang like myself. We do have some fun in this episode, but we kick it off going pretty deep straight away and he vulnerably opens up about some deep and dark times in his life. But it’s not all like that and we’re both passionate about highlighting the positive aspects of mental health and the mental health charities like Livin.  If you’re in need of reaching out to someone, please remember that lifeline is a great starting point for you and they can be contacted at 13 11 14. In this episode we discuss: - Mental health from the illness perspective but also the mental wellness perspective. - How and why Livin came about and what their logo represents. - Sam's self care practices and how every person’s will differ and what what works best for him, may not work best for you. - The positive aspects of Livin and the ripple effect this organisation is making. - How being on the show survivor was similar to his experience with mental illness. - His deeper why behind acting and how it started before livin was created - How acting teaches you about channeling emotions - We have a good old laugh about our Aussie twangs - Gratitude as a saviour of tool for both of us and why i’m addicted to it - And at the end, Sam asks me a question that allows me to be vulnerable again and share some of my experiences with dark and painful times.
