Welcome to Music for Life, enhancing the Armstrong concert experience. I'm your host, Ryan Malone. In today's episode, we will play the majority of a concert presented in Armstrong Auditorium on December 2nd, 2021. The concert was presented by Bridget Kibbe, called A Yo-Yo Ma of the Harp by Vogue magazine, and the Dover Quartet, one of the most celebrated string quartets on the concert circuit today. This collaboration between harp and string quartet celebrated the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. So stick around for this concert replay and Bach celebration today on Music for Life.

This is episode 134 of Music for Life, and recently in episode 132, we discussed the accomplishments, honors, and exploits of the Dover Quartet and harpist Bridget Kibbe, who collaborated in a program titled Celebrating Bach here at Armstrong, December 2nd, 2021. And we're going to play the majority of that today, and let's jump right in. The concert began with Bridget on solo harp, playing her incredible transcription of Bach's famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor. After that, she joined first violinist from the Dover Quartet, Joel Link, to play the sonata in E-flat for violin and obligato harpsichord, and the harpsichord part, in this case, being covered by the harp, obviously. this three-movement sonata, we will hear a four-movement sonata for viola and harp, Bach's second sonata, originally for viola da gamba, this one in D major, and with the BWV number 1028, if you're keeping score at home. Finally, to end the first half, three Dover members played the aria and four variations from Bach's beloved Goldberg Variations. Now, for sake of time, we'll hear just variation 26, and the three members playing there are Brian Lee, violin, Milena Pajarovandistat, viola, and Camden Shaw, cello.

We just heard most of the first half. The second half begins with violinist Joel Link joining Bridget for another sonata for violin and obligato harpsichord. Again, the harpsichord part being played by the harp. And this one is in G minor, BWV 1020. And after that three-movement work, the entire Dover Quartet played the first four movements of Bach's final epic work called The Art of Fugue. And for sake of time, I'll just play the first movement of that from the concert.
