Ep122: Saraid Taylor and the creative pivot

from Shooting The Breeze

In a fascinating podcast we’re joined by Saraid Taylor, a cross code AFLW, formerly WNBL, athlete. Both an athlete and artist Saraid has thrived in the AFLW recently after being in a holding pattern as a WNBL development player for a few years. Now based at the Melbourne Demons she is grateful to be in a league that leads the way in athlete development on and off the field. In this pod we also get into Saraid’s other passion when she’s off the field - writing. She’s wanted to be an athlete and writer since she was very young, winning the overland's Neilma Sidney Short Story prize and is currently in the editing phase of her debut novel ‘Flinch’ to be published by UQP later this year.Highlighting the increasing opportunities for female athletes to pursue their creative dreams alongside their athletic careers and to live more meaningful lives, Saraid’s flourishing talent comes at an ideal time as the interest and marketability for stories on female athletes written by female athletes is growing. No stranger to set backs we’re grateful to Saraid for sharing the difficulties in her professional sporting journey and the tough economic realities…but it’s that vulnerability and experience that is a treasure trove for her written work, which we can’t wait to read in the years to come.Enjoy!Don’t forget to like, share and leave a review so we can get more Hoops content to you!Join us on our socials - Twitter: @TheBreezePod and IG: @shootingthebreezepod
