Ep123: African Queens with Queen John-Moseph & Coach Liz Mills

from Shooting The Breeze

Next in our series of Passport Pods we have two African Queens transforming the women in hoops landscape on the continent! We welcome Shooting the Breeze regular Coach Liz Mills returned from a fantastic BAL tournament in which her team from Côte d'Ivoire played in their first BAL at Kigali and Queen John-Moseph joins us for the first time. Queen is a highly regarded sports journalist from Nigeria that alongside Coach Liz is drawing attention to basketball in Africa. Both are actively involved and shining a light on the progressive Basketball African League, the emerging female basketball talent, and BAL 4 Her - a fascinating initiative that is run in parallel to the tournament that aims to elevate women in hoops across Africa in all aspects of the game. This was a pod that was a long time coming, with a few restarts due to technical issues and intersecting schedules, only now, post BAL are we finally able to share it with listeners… and it was worth the wait! Both Queen and Liz are having a tremendous impact for women in hoops on the African continent, now extending beyond the continent as Coach Liz is currently coaching the U23 BAL 4 Her women’s team - representing 9 African countries at the Global Jam in Toronto. It was great to get a glimpse of their respective journey’s, how they overlap and hear their mutual appreciation and support at such an exciting time for African basketball. Enjoy! Watch a replay of the explosive ABC Fighters (Côte d'Ivoire) and Petro de Luanda (Angola) clash at the BAL in Kigali ’23 that we talk about on the podcast here: https://youtu.be/rPRNvzZ5Wy4 Don’t forget to like, share and leave a review so we can get more Hoops content to you!Join us on our socials - Twitter: @TheBreezePod and IG: @shootingthebreezepod
