For three decades, his research group has explored embryonic development, programmed cell suicide, tissue reprogramming, and aging, supported by many research grants from the National Institute on Aging, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and other agencies. He has overseen interdisciplinary training of doctoral students as the Director of the Biomolecular Science and Engineering Program and served as Chair of the Department of MCD Biology. He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
