from Electronically Yours with Martyn Ware · host Martyn Ware

What a treat we have in store for you… This monumental episode of Electronically Yours features one of the true pioneers of electronic music…Morton Subotnick is an American composer of electronic music, best known for his 1967 composition Silver Apples of the Moon, the first electronic work commissioned by a record company, Nonesuch. Morton has worked extensively with interactive electronics and multi-media, co-founding the San Francisco Tape Music Center, often collaborating with his wife Joan La Barbara.  Morton Subotnick is one of the great pioneers of electronic music and multi-media performance, and an innovator in works involving instruments and other media including interactive computer music systems. He also co-developed the incredible Buchla synthesiser. At 91, he still composes, performs and lectures about his love of electronic and interactive music. I am privileged to interview Morton, and as it was such a wide-ranging conversation, this is just part one of two episodes devoted to the maestro… Ladies and gentlemen - this is inspirational - meet Morton Subotnick.
