EP20: What You Must Know About Breast Implants, Breast Cancers, & Breast Implant Illness | Robyn Towt

You never know who you might be helping.   In today’s episode I’m joined by Robyn Towt.  We dig deep into the politics of breast implants, what is Breast Implant Illness (BII), common symptoms of BII, what is the FDA hiding, what new cancer is now showing up from implants, how to get financial help to get breast implants removed, how to advocate for yourself, and how to find a good reputable surgeon.   Robyn is a three time cancer survivor, most recently diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. She is an advocate for raising awareness about breast implant safety and proper informed consent regarding breast implants and other medical devices. She is the co-founder of Global Patient Advocacy Coalition (GPAC) and she is also an administrator in various online support groups for women who are suffering from Breast Implant Illness. Robyn worked extensively with Arizona legislators in passing an informed consent law for breast implant surgery and her GPAC team is currently working on similar legislation in several other states. GPAC has also partnered with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) to develop a patient decision checklist for breast implant surgery. In 2022, She collaborated with policy makers to update NCCN guidelines for breast cancer to include Aesthetic Flat Closure as a surgical option after mastectomy.  Robyn enjoys medical research and has published articles in magazines, as well as a medical journal and a medical textbook.
