Prospective nurses must be willing to commit to lifelong learning through rigorous degree programs with significant scientific content, and be prepared to make tough decisions guided by long-term patient welfare rather than short-term comfort. Nursing remains approximately 90% female but is increasingly inclusive of men and non-binary nurses who contribute valuable diversity to the profession's community.
