EP21: Exploring Humanity through Film with Mychal

from Mental Magic · host Christina Fennell

In this episode we introduce Mychal, a good friend, fellow Waker, and film enthusiast. During our conversation we discuss the role that films have played throughout human history in helping us escape the pain of our everyday realities, as well as confront the trauma of what it means to be alive. Mychal's passion for film, specifically from the early 40s to mid 50s, helps us gain some perspective on the timeless nature of the human drama while illuminating our tendency to turn a blind eye to various aspects of our shadow selves when we are over-saturated with themes of violence and chaos on the big screen. Throughout the episode we highlight the presence of various themes in films that help us bare the weight of our humanity and shed some light on the ways that movies can support us through the darkness in our everyday lives. So please enjoy this offering of inquiry and intrigue for our entertainment and what it possibly has to say about who we are as a collective.  To continue the conversation with Mychal about films, you can find her on Instagram @scarecrowvideo.is.my.bf  Intro quote from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Music from @azadhacket
