Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to the latest and greatest episode of the official Dom J radio show What's good word? I hope you're staying warm out there depending upon where you live. You're maybe going through this random winter freeze right now I know that is impacting a lot of folks family and friends alike. So definitely be discussing that recapping the latest sports LSU for my go tiger people talking about their schedule that came out predictions for the upcoming season new stimulus on the way Question mark, maybe some student loan relief on the way another question mark Maybe so get into that review of the movie Judas and the black Messiah talking about the latest news and entertainment that came out And much more after this brief message litter boxes toilet exteriors tubs and shower walls finished hardwood sealed grit stainless steels got a mess new 40% thicker cleaning two times better Clorox disinfecting wipes can get the job done.
They kill 99.9% of bacteria Stavie coli MRSA Salmonella strep Kleb killed code and flu viruses all of that with Clorox disinfecting wipes, huh? criminally speaking man Texans are suffering without power because those in power have failed as with COVID a natural disaster has become far deadlier due to the inaction and ineptitude of Greg Abbott and Texas Republican leadership is didn't have to happen and it doesn't have to continue while they focused on a bunch of BS 30 million Texas will have vulnerable to uncontrolled COVID spread a bungled vaccine rollout and now there's Rolling power blackout that's impacting millions You just you just hate it and you hate to see it because people can't do their most important job Protecting the lives of those they were sworn to serve and they need to get out of the way man and give the power and resources to local leaders Who are fighting with all they have to get past that BS and help the people in their communities State leaders don't get to say that they didn't see this sort of thing coming when I'm out here in Florida And I saw this coming as far as the weather the ramifications the impact and you need to do some sort of preparedness or somebody like me Is seeing this before Valentine's we can't even get here But you have those that chose to ignore the facts of science now Texans have to pay that price It's unfortunate, but again is another reminder of why it's important to vote locally people Always be aware of those that are in charge in your local community and hold their feet to the mother effing fight These are the opportunities and moments that you get to see what sort of leadership Do you have not when things are all cozy and easy and you're just kissing babies and shaking hands? But when things are rough did your ineptitude and lack of good decisions compound this to make it a doubly worst situation Something I definitely think everybody in Texas should be considering from their governor and elected officials your representation matters And it seems it does not appear to you it's apparent to other people that they have failed you Because I can't cover the news without talking coronavirus oddly enough US cases have fallen for five consecutive weeks Which is a hopeful sign you've had about 15% or more People hospitalized less often these past few weeks, which is a great great thing to be looking for for signs of encouragement Especially as you see people in Texas and middle America essentially battling this crazy Arctic weather that has millions of people without power in Houston and these surrounding areas And you figure you know in the middle of a pandemic if you can minimize the number of other problems you have That's probably good So just want to give a little bit of encouragement in that sense glad to see that the pandemic is turning a corner of sorts But you still got to stay safe out there people still be careful because you got new variants new strains Just popping up. They just popping up all over the place started off.
I think I was an Australian one There's a South African strain over the UK variant and so of course the US not to be beaten by these other companies said Hey, we got to get our own variant strains going on So as crazy as that sounds now there are new US strains going on in the midst of battling the pandemic Joe's trying to get these vaccines out As fast as possible, but again, it's a slow rollout man He says just had the first town hall meeting and his hopes are to have the first dose vaccine available to all Americans by the end of the Very ambitious. I don't know if that includes children or not Regardless, I think it's a very ambitious goal. It would be nice I suppose to believe I could stay optimistic for a little while and think that maybe we'll come close to it Do I think we'll fully encapsulate that I highly doubt it does we have things like again? Just winter storm that's coming out of nowhere got Texas with single-digit temperatures people freezing ass stuff like that them being a big Hot spot basically for any and everything you know shipping is being a dramatically slowed and delayed anything is coming in and out of the state at This moment.
So it's going to be an interesting interesting next few months, man As people try and get back on their feet obviously from this damn storm that's displaced in a lot of people destroying a lot of property And especially it's it's doubly bad I want to say because it's Texas so you think of the size and the ramifications therein But again in the midst of still also having to fight the damn pandemic man trying to stay safe and be displaced in the midst of it Again, my heart just goes out to everybody impacted and just want to sit out some positive words of encouragement may y'all stay safe trying to stay warm Stay out of carbon monoxide field the Rogers if you're using your car for heat Don't overdo it with a propane tanks. I know some of the cooks and everything everybody got big tanks out there to pick on that But just be safe man. Y'all stay safe for real. So now that Congress has failed to impeach Donald Trump I'm in there second attempt Joe Biden would like to see talking about this man and understandably so moving forward He's just the former guy.
We're not even gonna mention him by name I'm gonna try my best also in spirit with our current presidents wishes to not mention that former guy by name help should be on the way Focus should be reshifted to recovering America in all its vain glory But starting with stimulus checks again still waiting on them fourteen hundred dollar checks hopefully Congress can pass the Pass the bill without putting up a whole lot of fuss it would seem logical to me But again, what's always common sense ain't always common practice. I mean so I'm sure that there'll be delegation about it It's currently sitting at 1.9 trillion. They want to counter I'm sure with something that probably are 1.9 billion That's only what like nine hundred million or something. It always seems to be some you know ridiculous counter offer That's put forth in these negotiations with Congress going back and forth Oh, we have our own version of a stimulus package and bill that we'd like to submit that cut So, you know just about 50% of everything that was in the original man Nobody got time for that breath especially as again now on top of the pandemic which is still going on It's still raging and unemployment is still high You still have people trying to figure out what they're gonna do with their kids every day as they try to work from home or find new work There's no time to be continually debating just being useless politics as usual man when people need checks So hopefully soon rather than later we get checks Joe had his first town hall meeting recently lady Ask Tim what you gonna do with the 50k student debt relief?
He was like I ain't doing shit with that cuz that's not what I'm talking about but he's on board with 10k student debt for goodness So hopefully that also passes sooner rather later at least now the loan payments and Have been stopped through September 30th of the 31st of this year So if you have been making payments you can continue to not make those payments Which I'm sure is a relief to everybody included considering the majority of them were most likely predatory in nature in the first place So that is something that we can take some solace in until we get these checks the Joe when you're talking about change You talk about turning the page you're talking about reinstilling hope show me the money and because it's never a bad time to talk about voting There are some 2022 GOP sentences that are up for grabs and again Man if you don't like how people were voting their interests their express beliefs over the past four years that being 2016 to 2020 These are some Senate seats that we would gladly take in turning from red to blue Alabama Richard Shelby Alaska Lisa Murkowski Arkansas John Boosman, Florida Marco Rubio Idaho Mike Crapo Prepo Crapo, I don't know Indiana Todd Young Iowa Chuck the Rassley Kansas some guy named Jerry Kentucky Rand Paul Louisiana John Kennedy That's my home state may already know how I feel about John Kennedy and if you're somebody I know in Louisiana I know how you most likely feel about John Kennedy again Boba man up out of there November 8th 2022 continuing on Missouri Roy Blunt, North Carolina Richard Burr North Dakota John Hovane Ohio Rob Portman, Oklahoma James Langford Pennsylvania Pat Toonie South Carolina Tim Scott South Dakota John Soon Utah Mike Lee Wisconsin Ron Johnson those are all 20 GOP Senate seats that are up for grabs in your November 8th 2022 election vote accordingly in Florida news because why not man why wouldn't I have a Florida news segment Governor Ron DeSantis Facebook questions about why I pop up vaccines I was created at a wealthy and mostly white community tied to a political donor and where a county commissioner reportedly created a Vaccine recipient VIP list that included herself now If you're a Floridian or just somebody who watches the news for all strange things that may be related to Florida DeSantis's mantra if you will with the vaccine rollout has been seniors first now I love my older individuals the older generations the OGs if you will I love my grandparents my great-grandma as well But this is one of the most propaganda field moments I can think of as far as the guys of why you have a pop-up site where you have it now I'm not against vaccination rollouts obviously for the you know the seniors and first responders anybody that's a front line person I have no problems obviously with them being the ones that first and premium access to it But when you are picking and choosing and the picking and choosing of location seems to have a theme of Fluency then we are going to start to have a bit of a problem there bucko He put it under the guys up if they didn't want us here They could have told us knowing we would have taken it elsewhere I'm sure I'm sure friend that that sounds sounds like something that makes sense to you But no shit who the hell would be like now don't bring the COVID vaccine rollout here And especially if you're doing it in an affluent place where it's always just us two zip codes that are both filled with wealthy white Republican individuals I don't see how you don't understand how that's going to receive backlash Similarly to Ted Cruz who decided I'm gonna just fly on down in Mexico for a little bit throw my kids under the bus when the media And everyone finds out that in the middle of a Texas winter freezer took my ass down to Mexico can clean Then say oh man, you know, I'll just have to see the kids off to Mexico But I'm on my way back because you know, I guess it was just a one-way bodyguard situation for the kids They're gonna be all right down there now by themselves But I had to get on the plane and fly down like I was top-flight security or world correctness bullshit I don't know how to have thought that was going to be cool or jive with the people in his home state that he's allegedly Representing but it ain't gonna fly man. It's not gonna fly So, you know stupid people do stupid things in the most stupidest ways and at the most stupidest times So should we be surprised by either of these individuals one Floridian one Texan? No, not surprised in the least both they stupidasses out y'all In sports talking about those LSU Tigers and their upcoming football schedule They've got UCLA, McNeese, Central Michigan, Mississippi State, Auburn, Kentucky, Florida, Ole Miss, Bigh Week, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Monroe Shoutout to my ULM people and Texas A&M to close the season now depending upon how they sort out this QB situation If there are any more surprise transfers any opt-outs any early draft declarations, etc. So on and so forth man, it could be a Classic LSU season when you don't know what to expect the defense last year was gassed.
So they you know fired and hired new DC So who who knows man? I really my gut my gut people if I'm being honest Eightened for at best and I say at best because I still feel like it's going to take time to gel on both sides of the ball Now they're gonna be in I feel like we're gonna be some reminiscent of Les Miles type of games where it's a lot of back and forth Some low scoring games and games that shouldn't be low scoring and some shootouts where the defense is surprisingly terrible But the offense somehow manifests a bunch of points because again you're looking at a couple of games You got me needs no disrespect you got central Michigan no disrespect and ULM no disrespect So those will be some good tune-up games if you will you see a later kick off the year They fuck around and lose that game Then that'll just tell you what to expect out of the Tigers for the rest of the season and it won't be much if they start off with So I could see them rattling off three doves possibly losing a Mississippi state again because that's not out of the question Especially after last year. I see them possibly losing to Auburn. Go ahead and be Kentucky now.
We're at four and two I'm gonna say they be Florida again because why not five and two at Ole Miss five and three I'm gonna say that'll be one where they could fly right before the bye week at Alabama That's an L so you're five and four our Kansas a gay Arkansas six and four You beat the ule make it seven and four and Texas a and M to make it eight and four So I mean a fellow Tiger fans if you listen to the podcast Let me know what y'all think man There's no schedule a very winnable and some very loseable games feel like I'm being kind of kind of you know kind of modest here But also practical in the same sense don't want to put too much pressure on these on the classroom who knows what they'll see But it's always go Tigers in NBA news shout out to the lake show like a nation family Of course to send here second in the division or not the division rather the conference the Western Conference right behind the jazz Who won like 19 out of their last 20 games man? It's been a pretty nuts if I'm being honest to start that they've gotten off to they are playing some very very good basketball I feel like Donovan Mitchell is playing at a different pace this year I feel like when I watch him in the past has been more frantic But he seems to be playing with a better calm and sense of movement as far as when to make his burst and cuts I like seeing his evolution continue to grow because you have doubters out there about his game because he's a volume score people Don't like that but they didn't like Kobe for the same reason But it's like man if this team is built around me and this is what I need to do for my team Then that's what I'm going to do everybody's knife in a be up here point guard or play point guard if you're shooting Art you shoot bro shoot a shoot that man's putting up big buttons in the east you got Philadelphia leading awake with a Brooklyn That's right on the trail. I will not be surprised if Brooklyn does finish with the first seat overall in the Eastern Conference You know recently this past week you've had Kyrie telling James Harden that he's the point guard and James Harden has been averaging crazy Assist numbers ever since he got to Brooklyn Which I'm sure makes that an easier thing to say when you see somebody getting everybody else involved including yourself So that trio of KD Harden and Kyrie man Oh man is that gonna be a something to watch man It's always good best moment two of the three or all three of them are on the court unfortunately for my Lakers AD is hurt that meniscus in his knee is really bothering him So he's gonna be sidelined for a few weeks reevaluated most likely after the all-star break Which is coming up the first week of March and it's drawn some controversy to be honest because the all-star game is happening in Atlanta You have the mayor of Atlanta telling people don't come here man. Say oh ass at home She's trying to get local businesses to essentially back up that declaration because again in the midst of a pandemic Yes, everybody wants to get away have a little fun in vacation But people continually show you time and time again They will be ungrossly negligent as soon as the opportunity prevents itself So I can understand her position from what she's in charge of and the people that she is in charge of keeping safe in her position That she is going to try to deter outsiders from coming into a situation That's already a petri dish with Atlanta and everybody not following the mass mandates and protocols in place there She probably doesn't want an influx of people but alas That's where the all-star game is headed So there's bound to be some influx because it's not like these these flight these airlines gonna cancel flights not allow you to fly to Atlanta Or some shit like that because they want cash to baby I said down there every episode cash rules everything around me cream get the money dollar dollar bill y'all Shout out to Wu saying y'all ready know so again I think it's gonna be interesting to see how she handles that situation how the league handles that they did a good job with the bubble I'm doubting that there's gonna be a sort of bubble just for the all-star selection and the game and pre games that happened before that I'm sure it'd be better than the NFL's approach to their all-star celebration Which was all virtual and everybody basically sent in your best, you know Hat tricks and videos and whatnot from the crib I skipped all of that altogether man It was the the least interesting aspect of the pro ball and the surrounding activities that I can remember it in quite some time But I hope the NBA does better than the NFL did with this recognition I feel like the all-star game is definitely more hype in the NBA than it is in the NFL In other sports news man because it's culturally relevant We had Naomi Osaka defeating Serena Williams in straight sets in this year's Australian Open You know after the match got a very somber Serena shedding tears in her postgame interview and I hate to see that Because of course man, she's one of the greatest athletes of all times one of the greatest Individual competitors in their respective sports of all time regardless of gender and I think obviously her being a goat I can see Naomi easily being the next in line for that for that title as the goat especially in women's tennis So again, I hate to see Serena lose I think we can you know as a collective culture sharing that sentiment But if she's going to lose and it happens to be Naomi Osaka on the other side of the court Then I'm a little more understanding of the circumstance because again Hey, man, you're talking about two high-level competitors both ranked top 10 in the world going at it So again, that's the sort of battle that you want to see if you're going to be beat you want it to be about one of the peers that you respect Most and they've had their own, you know, it's a brief history of event match-ups But Naomi is kind of getting the better out of Serena in these last few match-ups if we've been completely honest So again, man, it's a slow passing of the torch if you will Naomi's climbing into her own right as an advocate for all things That matter on and off the court, but again man Shout out to both of those ladies for always given one hell of a tennis match up Last little bit of sports news to bring to you We had the all-star captains in the NBA named and you have drum roll the value you have the bronze James and Kevin Durant as your Captains if that was going to be a surprise.
They're the captains for the NBA's all-star game They're gonna pick their respective teams from the remaining 22 all-stars between now and the all-star game NBA officially announced it's taking place March 7th in Atlanta Like I told y'all earlier the players joining them in the front court from both conferences when exactly as you would have expected with Durant being joined by Giannis and Joelle and beat in the starting pool for the East while LeBron was joined by Kawai Leonard of the Clippers and Yoghtage from the Denver Nuggets And so there you have it as far as you're all started like I said earlier in the segment man There's a lot of contention being raised on the all-star game in the first place But you know I'm saying somebody like LeBron is a consummate pro and professional says he will be there physically But not mentally so and I can't really blame before to be honest It's a an ironical thing But again, I guess that falls back on their players union making certain concessions and agreeing to certain things to take place throughout the year And this is one of those things that they've signed up for so I guess that's gonna be what that's gonna be Unfortunately last night my Lakers took an L to the Nets the Nets were without KD and the Lakers were without AD So it wasn't the top-flight zeal and zest on the game that you would have expected at the finals preview later Find out that 80s gonna be out at least four weeks basically coming back after all star breaks from time Which is sad for my fantasy league team and sad for the Lakers overall They got healthy last at 100 points last night in their loss to the Nets harden with double-digit assists LeBron trying to do everything But man if you don't have you you count apart with you man When they still have two out of their big three with Kyrie and harden going at you gonna be a hard battle But at least you can see it was a bit more of a defensive struggle if you will than normally with the Nets averaging around 120 plus points a game So, you know, we may have taken that L they can had this one But I have a feeling we'll be seeing him again So I need to split it in continuing with the celebration of black history month wanted to make sure I continued to highlight Some of the standout news that may have been left out from the first episode or just things that I wanted to split and talk about in this episode First of all shout out to miss Brianna Daniels. She is the first African-American woman to become a NASCAR pit crew member I find that you know definitely worth mentioning a clap brief clap Let me go ahead get that and we're saying a nice little clap going for her making history It's significant and then keeping with NASCAR for the NASCAR fans out there and in African-American history head Bubba Wallace Leading a laugh at the Daytona 500 becoming the first African-American to do so now my man's finished 17th overall in his debut with the You know backing up Michael Jordan and company behind it now, but again, man He's gotten better access to top of the line NASCAR car first of all and then the surrounding You know entities as far as the pit crew parts and all that that one would need to eventually climb that mountain top And that's exactly what I expect but while it's to do so be definitely looking forward to seeing everything that that man does I got my homie is in the NASCAR big time if you know he you know he's into that so Shout out to bubble Wallace man. I'm hoping for his continued success I'm not big on watching NASCAR unless there's an imminent crash happening or you know as it happened in the last lap of the day Tona 500 you had it in the last lap of that race. That's something that I'd be looking forward to but that's obviously the casual person's perspective And not a real NASCAR fans perspective, but again a last shot out to miss Brianna Daniels and shout out to bubble Wallace Continuing the history here.
We also have mr. Ryan Cooley aka one of the best directors of the 21st century the black Panther director in A five-year TV deal with Disney that will include him producing and writing a black panther TV series on Disney Plus now If you don't have Disney Plus, I would recommend adding it to your streaming rotation You know that I wouldn't say that they drop as much exclusive content that keeps me craving and coming back to it like some of the other streaming services But I'd say one division while it did take I believe four episodes before I really felt like anything was happening on that show And they're doing you know like I think it's weekly Friday releases with it I would say it's gotten better and better since that fourth episode man So I was hoping Marvel would not fly with the one division and it's looking like despite having to wait on this like a TV show every week It is getting progressively better. So that's interesting Definitely something to keep watching and I'll be definitely tuning in whenever this black panther TV series on Disney Plus He has I hope there's gonna be follow up news on that sooner rather than later so I can set my calendars and be ready to watch that Now I think continuing in honor of black history mind Just naming some of the inventions man from black and vintage man You have air conditioning unit by Frederick Jones the Almanac Benjamin Banneker auto cut off switch by Grandville T woods again for my auto people auto fishing device George Cook baby buggy William Richards Yalon sprinkler by John Smith lubricating cover Elijah McCoy the mailbox Paul Downey record player arm Joseph Dickens rolling pin John Reed straighten Come obviously madam cj walker all the ladies already know that I didn't even have to say it soon as I said straighten Come already know y'all knew thermostat control by Frederick Jones traffic light Garrett Morgan shampoo headrest Charles Orrin Bayliff Peanut butter obviously by George Carver again one of the people that you know if you're a black kid in America That's one of the few black historical facts that you were taught growing up Furniture caster David Fisher fountain pin Walter v. Purpose voting bed Lynette Bailey the list goes on and on man But I wanted to just highlight a few of the inventions low key that you might find yourself Utilizing or around on an everyday basis from inventors that were probably new to you as they were new to me and some capacity So in the spirit of shared learning and advancing black history month and it's notoriety Definitely wanted to highlight some of those successes black history 365 y'all Now in conjunction with the other animated production news that I talked about earlier Bowie State University makes history becoming the first HBCU with an animated studio So again man thinking of being in that creative space This is the sort of thing that I'm really impassioned about because I love to hear about these new opportunities that future generations Are going to have as far as what they can show their creative juices through being able to have an animation studio on your campus Is a huge step and you know having kids of that age be able to see their visions come to light to literally be able to Mode an idea then you'll be able to employ other people to come work on it as far as the graphics are All right, you know concerned as far as the voice acting goes you'll be able to provide more opportunities for people to be engaged in that Compassion that's also a field your voice trying to break into myself So hearing that and seeing that sort of news and progress being made couldn't help but highlight that so shout out to Bowie State University And entertainment news talking about Judas and the black Messiah if you follow me on social media is that official?
Tom J You saw me posting pictures of the soundtrack before the movie drop And I thought it was going to be fire and turns out it was indeed pretty damn fire And not just a movie but the soundtrack as well I like it when you can have them individually fire but when they blend together in that way They just sort of takes it up another night my estimation some of my favorite standout tracks from the movie the Dom Kennedy respect my mind track Definitely definitely had to go ahead and favor that one spoke to your boy. Hit me in the chest and whatnot the plead the 45th With Sino Asamba teach me by sir for the R&B tip definitely have to recommend those three standouts Of course you have a Jay-Z and Nip on a song and that's gonna be the one that gets the most discussion Obviously because you have you know posthumous Nip release is always going to be celebrated and Jay-Z Of course kind of just ate that verse man I'm not even gonna lie to you kind of did this thing on this shut out to hold recipes No, but these are some of my favorite trust me that don't can you I have to throw that into a couple of my motivational me against the world Type playlist immediately after hearing it and that teach me by sir definitely have to throw that into your late night R&B tips Fellows you're welcome for that when it advanced no head slide that into your rotation if you will but the movie itself Man, I think I give it they told my home by I gave about a seven and a half out of ten It's hard to want more out of a movie I suppose you get a little bit of backstory You see the current events but if you know the story of Fred Hampton he died so a young man was 21 at the time So encapsulating you know a certain amount of life between what you know What's upbringing a brief insight into your teen years and then boom just man You know as soon as he's hitting the 20s the government wants this man dead for things He's been saying and so I thought it was a great insight it'll leave you angry in these sorts of moments But again being able to take in the sort of media I'll be able to discuss it amongst ourselves amongst the culture I always appreciate those opportunities shout out to all the actors and actresses that were involved in making this movie and the Producers as well because again, I like it. It dropped during Black History Month It's again an opportunity to increase people's curiosity about who Fred Hampton and the Black Panther Party were during that time frame So again the sort of context that you can make between when a film drops the the thoughts behind it that whole thinking of how you can make those Connections and educate people on historical figures that are relevant to us especially I always applaud those sorts of attempts and this was just one of the latest ones so again Yes, I said seven and a half out of ten But that's mostly because I wanted more I wanted you know an even longer film if I'm being honest But again, you know, you get the movie where they get to the part and I'm not gonna spoil it But it gets to the end and then you get the words on screen that sort of give you a next level conclusion feel to it But that never really suffices for me because like okay, that is the historical context and implications that have happened in it But again, man, they could have given me a little a little more So I give it about a seven and a half if I was being generous I'd say eight because of the soundtrack alone But based on the movie itself off the string 7.5 Definitely recommend it though, man If you haven't seen Judas in the Black Nocia add that to your list This episode spoken word selection is brought to you by the official Dom J WordPress page The invisible eye of next random propaganda on the official Dom J radio show Random propaganda Be happy but only to a limit live how you want but only if they govern how and who is in it The like paths that brought you together were pieces of a bigger hole, but hold up don't get carried away like the wind with bird feathers They recognize what brought you here The question further you future you and your energy your energy for the next level Good thing. I never prayed for man's approval or help to make me better PSA be careful with me Random propaganda what's good official Dom J radio listeners?
It's your boy agent Jerry stop it about it. Let you know Dom love piecans For this episode's to TV or the thought of the day February and a focal point for myself It's been a month of investing not only into finances I'm not just speaking on financial investments which are always important diversifying the portfolio Wu-Tang cash was everything around You already know the monteries around here But it's also been about investing in the family and friends You know just trying to find ways to show support empower others use my platform to allow them to have their voices heard to amplify them doing The magnificent things that they're doing in their own respective areas and of course because I care about these people I wanted to give them opportunities to speak on issues that they care about their concern with to relieve a little stress and whatnot Because I think it's important to invest obviously in time with other people and I know that's hard to do especially with a pandemic now But by having guests show up on the podcast I thought it was one of my favorite things to do is have my friends stop by and shoot the shit if you will to be casual about it But I think this has just been a focal point in taking these sort of specific moments to think about Investing like I said a multi-faceted approach You can't wake up each day and not check in with the star player in the mirror check in with self and see how we're feeling today How do I want to approach and tackle what obstacles and goals? I have to get done within this 24 hours and that's just to connect to the sense that that's all we are guaranteed in that specific moment The moment you wake up you have those perceived 24 hours or however much time left depending upon when you wake up You get what I'm saying if you listen So this is just to say thank you to all of my guests that were on the last episode and some future guests To thank you for being willing to stop by and talk to the community to speak truth the power and speak power in truth Thank you. Now in other entertainment news I know I spoke about a couple of the best soundtracks that have dropped in my estimation recently But when I forgot and it was a movie that I don't know why I didn't see it when it first came out But Queen and Slim also has one of the sneakiest low-key fire soundtracks for a movie that I did like I like that movie a lot more than I had initially expected to as well And I find myself having an affinity for movies that include shots of New Orleans You know, I find it I don't know if this is a statistical facts if somebody could check me on it or not if the movie is set in or around New Orleans It's probably a good movie even if it's a trash movie the scenes that include clear New Orleans influence or New Orleans in the background Finch quarter happenings and whatnot.
It's typically a fire portion of the movie if you disagree I'd be surprised to be honest, but let me know but I digress Queen and Slim was one of those forgotten soundtracks I think that had a lot of bangers on it that people I don't think talked about enough But in other music that you might want to check out one of the albums that I have been listening to is from Tiana Major 9 she dropped a project called Major Montras. She's got some bangers on there Pink Planet by Pink Sweats is one of those new up-and-coming artists I put in the same depth and breadth when I'm talking about people that are gonna be mainstays for the next generation He's up there with Khalid to me and Alina Baraz. I have him right in that groove of kids that have You know young adults that have that sound that is going to expand as they go through life So each time they drop something is interesting to see how they've evolved since the last project always like seeing the development in that aspect homegrown Avenge just tape man. You want to talk about smooth R&B?
That's a smooth smooth project Man, I think that dropped a couple weeks ago I've been listening to it and I don't think I talked about it on the last part So definitely check out that homegrown tape my man code of the friend lyrics to go volume to a sleeper that I don't think I talked About back in January man. I was remiss when he dropped it I don't know what it is with the algorithms and all that I don't be seeing some of my favorite artists Just pop up and that really be arguing me but code of the friend lyrics to go volume to definitely worth checking out So that is some music for your consideration In other news, I wanted to make sure that I took some time to mention You have some history being made obviously first look at Nickelodeon Unvelling their Lakota character on the Casa Grande's you get to meet Charles Littable He's a role model grad student in his 20s wears his long hair in two braids and he'll become one of the first Lakota figures to appear in a major American animated TV production his debut reflects Native American advocates heightened campaigning to champion more positive high profile Representation in media and news coverage. That's happening as they also push for sports team to drop offensive mask guys with stereotypical images of indigenous people So of course, this is a big thing man having been a 90s kid and grown up watching my fair share of cartoon network and Nickelodeon This is great to see them making this sort of change to become more current up-to-date in their representation and showing students and kids all around the world that this matters Having this sort of representation matters This is we're in 2021 talking about a first in the major American animated TV production space I think that was definitely something I wanted to make sure I highlighted because it's important representation matters Not just to black people as minorities but to other minority groups as well So that's a kudos moment to Nickelodeon for trying to be more inclusive to our Native American brothers And I think in keeping with that It's important to recognize that there's always more culture around you that you can learn about that you can learn from so again I think this is a good opportunity just to embrace this sort of change and hope that it's not a one-off that we continue especially in the animated space We're talking about fantastical, you know representations of people or situation scenarios and what have you there should be people of all colors And I think obviously you see that on some shows but in the representation aspect of your you know your protagonist you can always have more Diversity there's never a bad time for that so I think this can definitely be a stepping stone if you will for Nickelodeon opening up new spaces for minority voices and trails definitely something I wanted to highlight and other news you had on Jemima with a new name the Pearl Million Company an announcement recently back the pancake mix and serve line formally began for branding itself and move one step closer Partly it's bending the 130 plus year old name It's from the million company in St. Joseph, Missouri They pioneered the self rising pancake mix that became known as and Jemima court in a Pepsi code Which said the rebranded products would arrive in stores in June of this year So low-key if you have a bottle of and Jemima syrup or you like it as a currently is constituted You might want to go ahead and scoop a couple bottles because it's about to become memorabilia shorter rather than later The change has been in the work since last June after the killing of George Floyd Catalyzed widespread protests of racial injustice and a nationwide reckoning over symbols of the old South and their meaning So I think this is a step in the right direction I don't think with this rebranding you'll get a change of flavor and so far as the syrup, you know And any concerns you might have there, but I think it's something I don't want to necessarily say I'm highlighting just sort of speaking on it because it was an interesting little story I think like they say in the you know in getting rid of these These idiosyncrasies and these over idolized old South representations where yes We're blatantly aware of the history you cannot avoid having it put in your face Everywhere essentially because again you'll have it on all of these long-standing companies man They've been in business since 1898 you can think back to what was happening in this country during that time frame and realize okay There's probably something derogatory in this company's branding if we're just keeping it a buck So I think this is a positive change do I be buying and Jemima syrup now as it is Oh, no, maybe every nine in a month.
I'm more of a mrs. Butterworth a log cabin person myself will brother take a little and Jemima here They're of course of course, but this rebranding pearl milling company I suppose it's a positive step in the right direction Man, oh man, I know I talked about it. I think I had on the last episode of the one before that man I saw some first-look pictures from the Mortal Kombat Movie that's dropping and bro the trailer just dropped you want to talk about some I got I cannot wait the trailer looks hella dope Scorpion shanzoom kum lao, you know I'm saying jack Sonya the whole gang bro the whole gang is looking like they are in peak tournament fighting form Dope dope dope dope dope dope dope dope looking movie man I'm really excited for it and that's mostly because man like I said this is a nostalgia thing I remember one of my earliest childhood memories man is on having little tournaments on the super Nintendo with dad and uncles and what Not playing Mortal Kombat bro. So this is something our brothers been a fan of for some high 20 plus years now So what are your thoughts y'all on the trailer if you've seen it?
What do you think if you haven't seen it? Are you a Mortal Kombat fan or not? Is it too gruesome and gory for you? Either way, man, I'm a fan boy in this moment.
I'm fan boy and out I'm geeked Mortal Kombat baby and in another tidbit for black history month Shae moisture is honoring black men in a new campaign and commitment the beauty giant announced that they are not only launching a new beauty Collection geared to black men's needs but a new digital series and a one million dollar multi-year commitment to establishing an investment fund for black men The new my story my power follows the stories of black men in America spotlighting their unique experiences as it relates to race and gender Now this was also a tidbit of news that I want to make sure I highlight it because one I'm a shae moisture product advocate To be 100 about it most likely well I know probably got some shae moisture products all over the house fellas I tweeted this recently if they're on a shae moisture products all over your house and you got to assist them You might want to check up on that might want to be a little concerned about that Shae moisture top-of-the-line products for us by us in that sense I mean so I think that's a great fantastic thing I is a black man I'm trying to take better care of my myself my skin and whatnot And so to find a product worth backing that I already you know Am I a huge fan of taking this step in the midst of black history month to be more inclusive to provide more opportunities? Definitely wanted to highlight that so Shae moisture. This is free advertising.
