EP33: Healing from Sexual Abuse (with Ashley) | South Asian, Healing & Sexual Assault Survivor
from It's Preeti Personal · host Preeti Kaur
Ashley is a researcher of sexual abuse in South Asian communities, She has recently completed her research titled “Reclaiming Shakit: The journey to wellbeing for South Asian immigrant women survivors of sexual violence”. She has been advocating for survivors for the last four years, after noticing the gaps in the current systems that support South Asian survivors, having been through it herself. She felt it was important to understand the lived experience of South Asian survivors who are often left in the margins of sexual violence research and practice. We talk about what consists of sexual abuse, the culture of silence, the concept of honour (izzat) and the framework she designed to aid survivors with healing. I learnt so much from this episode about something that isn’t widely spoken about yet so common.
