Der Klassiker der Gothic Novel wurde von Netflix neu aufgelegt und ist dort in voller, opulenter Pracht seit dem 7. November 2025 zu sehen. Das Jahr neigt sich dem Ende entgegen. Wie versprochen habe ich einen besonderen Gast in der Dezemberfolge eingeladen. Es ist DoP Dan Laustsen, der nach 2022 erneut in den Podcast zurück kehrt. Damals sprachen wir über &#8222;Nightmare Alley&#8220;. Del Toro ist ja hinlänglich dafür bekannt, sehr genaue Vorstellungen über die Gestaltung der Details seiner wichtigsten Gewerke zu haben. Bei &#8222;Frankenstein&#8220; stand schon früh fest, welche Farbwelten er bespielen möchte. Detailbesessen Regisseur del Toro erzählt die Geschichte Mary Shelleys in zwei Akten aus zwei Perspektiven. Nach dem Prolog in der Arktis erzählt zunächst Victor seine Version der Geschichte. Zentral dabei dessen Kindheitstrauma durch den Tod seiner Mutter. Danach ergreift die Kreatur das Wort und vertieft die Erzählung auf unerwartet emotionale Weise. DoP Dan Laustsen und Regisseur Guillermo del Toro drehten „Frankenstein“ diesmal komplett im Large Format auf der ARRI ALEXA 65.
