Ep54 - Derek Wikramanayake

In this episode, Channa Channa Channa talks to legendary Sri Lankan guitarist Derek Wikramanayake of Wild Fire.  Channa saw Wild Fire back in Sri Lanka many times.  Derek grew up listening to the radio and started playing in his teens.  His first performance was playing Bass for Hezonites for a wedding at the Town Hall, Kegalle.  He travelled to Afghanistan, UK, Saudi Arabia, France,  Switzerland lived and performed for many years. In 2000, Derek formed Wild Fire to play his favourite songs from Beatles, CCR.  Wild Fire became one of the biggest club/bar bands in the country.  Derek believes the secret behind his success is he kept learning and improving his skills.  Derek now focuses on playing Jazz and also like to teach playing the guitar. Derek recently contributed to Sri Guitar Jam the biggest guitar collaboration in Sri Lanka.
