EP54 with Nick Bannikoff on Immersive Environments

from Australian Design Radio · host Australian Design Radio

In this episode, we spoke with Nick Bannikoff, Design Manager of Brand Culture. Starting as an industrial designer, Nick moved into environmental design and saw the transition from that slightly confusing name into how it is now known, as experiential design. Yep, nothing to do with sustainable green environment work with Greenpeace. As an experiential designer (the first we’ve had on the show), Nick is involved in the end-users experience of space and how they transition from place to place. This was a perfect chance for us (who have no idea about this stuff) to dig in and find more about what Nick does day to day and how these types of design decisions affect our engagement with space. Nick is also Co-Chair (along with Carlo Giannasca of Frost) of the Australian chapter of SEGD (The Society for Experiential Graphic Design), a not-for-profit professional association dedicated to increasing awareness of experiential design to the public and other design professionals. The chapter is only a few months old so we took the time to explore why Australia needs a professional body like this and what they plan to do in the near future.
