Ep96: Sam Pascoe & Shannon Seebohm - Strength in Numbers

from Shooting The Breeze

In this week's episode we’re peeling back the layers to one of the younger clubs in the WNBL, the Townsville Fire, and explore its success over the last decade. A not for profit club in Far North Qld, the Fire's General Manager Sam Pascoe & Head Coach Shannon Seebohm share what makes this regional WNBL club the real deal… “we exist to provide healthy female role models and we exist to hopefully benefit the region.” At the time of taping we talk about their upcoming clash with the undefeated Bendigo, a game that was fiercely contested with only 2 points bewteen them in a narrow loss by the team.Sam and Shannon share their successful pairing, each working to their strengths in driving the growth, culture, and presence of the only professional women’s sporting team in the whole of Northern Australia. Sam with many years of business development experience in the commercial sector having run her own consulting business, and Shannon with several years of coaching elite womens’s basketball with great success, incl. Coach of The Year accolades in his first WNBL season and a historic Gold Medal winning FIBA U17 Womens World Championship in 2016 with the Australian Saphhires U17 squad defeating the US. Their model underpins a shared value system and mutual trust with a philosophy to do good things on and off the court collectively as role models, and as team mates in what Coach Seebohm refers to as ‘professional excellence’ - one of the key measures of their success. We’re grateful to Sam and Shannon in sharing stories of their experiences from their leadership roles, and of the players past and present in a fascinating glimpse of both the club and its importance in serving the regional community.Enjoy!Don’t forget to like, share and leave a review so we can get more Hoops content to you!Join us on our socials - Twitter: @TheBreezePod and IG: @shootingthebreezepod
