EPA’s Latest Chemical Risk Management Update

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has the same purpose as other US regulatory bodies: safeguarding public health and the environment. This agency has recently released the final update to its Risk Management Programs(RMP) to provide total protection at chemical facilities. This new regulation has been mandated for effective chemical risk management.  Establishments that deal with hazardous materials or chemicals must adhere to all federal regulations. When conducting inspections, the regulatory bodies are more stringent and noncompliance is always punishable by severe consequences. Under Section 6(a) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the EPA proposed five risk management regulations in 2022 and 2023. It has put restrictions including a ban on the use of specific chemicals.If the EPA determines that an existing chemical is dangerous, it can apply a wide range of restrictions under TSCA Section 6(a). The new revisions aim to raise public knowledge of chemical dangers and help with planning and preparation.
