Ephesians 1-2

from Daily Devotional With Murphy Eyenike Hosted by Murphy Eyenike

Everytime I study the book the book of Ephesians, I can't but marvel at the depth of Paul's prayer for this church. We will take a deep dive at the prayers again as we do the study but allow me first share Paul's revelation of our salvation because I believe that is what everything stands on. The concept of salvation is often misunderstood as Christians often in a bid to prove their salvation delve into legalism and the living according to the law. Paul tells us; God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8‭-‬9 NLT. We are saved not by the works of the law but by God's grace, it's a gift. We didn't earn it. Nothing we will ever do will ever qualify us for it. It is a free gift from a loving God to his creation. Secondly, Paul prays these three prayers I found have had an amazing impact in my life. I urge you to pray them for yourself regularly. Paul prayed that; "I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God." Ephesians 1: 17. Spiritual wisdom and insight or the Spirit of wisdom and revelation is what enables the believer to understand God's word when he/she reads it, and to know God better. Spiritual wisdom and insight is also the key to growing as a Christian. Next; Paul prayed; "I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called - his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance." Ephesians 1:18 NLT. With light comes comprehension and understanding. If you want to know who you are now in Christ, this prayer is a must. Finally, Paulprays; "I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honour at God's right hand in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT. A lack of understanding of the power the believer now has in Christ is what leads some Christians to want to add something extra to prove the power of God. Paul is telling us here that believers have great power, it's the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. The very same power. The power we wield today is no different from the power that broke the chains of death.
