WIVES WALK IN A MANNER WORTHY OF CHRISTS CALLING Ephesians 5:22–24  Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. THE CALLING OF SUBMISSION FOR A WIFE V22,24 v.22 to your own husbands v.24 wives should submit in everything to their husbands IN CREATION DESIGNED BY GOD AS DIFFERENT IN ROLES BUT EQUAL IN VALUE V23a v.23For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church 1 Corinthians 11:8–12 (ESV) — 8 For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. 9 Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10 That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; 12 for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God. Before sin, in God’s design, Eve was created out of Adam as his help mate. V8-9 - Genesis 2:18 (ESV) — 18 Then the LordGod said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Genesis 2:22 (ESV) — 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Adam was responsible and held accountable for the sin of Genesis 3. V10 - Genesis 3:8–9 (ESV) — 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” Man is not independent of woman or woman independent from man…. necessary for one another…. V11-12 - 1 Peter 3:7 (ESV) — 7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. THE CONSOLATION OF SUBMISSION FOR WIVES OF CHRISTLIKE HUSBANDS V23b v.23 his body, and is himself its Savior. Proverbs 14:1–3 (ESV) — 1 The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down. 2Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises him. 3 By the mouth of a fool comes a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will preserve them. THE COMMITTED WORK OF SUBMISSION FOR ALL CHRISTIANS… 1 Peter 2:21 (ESV) — 21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps… 1 Peter 3:1–4 (ESV) — 1 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
