Epilogue: Forget Me Not!
from Wrong Ride Home: Beyond the Book Hosted by Donna Waters
Day 3,408. Thirty-three episodes. Eight months. One story that refuses to be forgotten. When I began this podcast, I wanted to take you beyond the pages of Wrong Ride Home. I wanted you to hear the testimony, examine the evidence, question the investigation, and decide for yourself whether justice was served. But before I close this final chapter, there's one more question I want to ask. Where are they now? What happened to the witnesses whose words helped convict Austin Burke? The people who gave investigators information that shaped the case? The detectives and prosecutor who stood behind the investigation? Eight years have passed since Austin was convicted. For everyone else, life continued. And then there's Jamie. A mother who has moved away but never stopped searching for answers. Still following leads. Still fighting for her son. And Austin. Still behind prison walls. Still learning, reading, painting, writing, and making plans for a future he hopes to have. In this final episode, I also share something deeply personal about my own journey after prison—and why coming home doesn't always mean you're free. We remember Brandon Sample, whose life was taken in 2017. We revisit the questions that remain unanswered. And I tell you, without hesitation, where I stand after years of examining this case. This isn't the ending I hoped to write when I opened that first chapter. But some stories don't end just because the microphone goes silent. This is the end of the podcast. But it is not the end of the story.
