Existence is a massive aspect to formal mathematics, yet it is never defined what kind of existence is meant in mathematics.  We break down three kinds of existence and show their effect on mathematics through the history of calculus and how it evolved.  Calculus done by Leibniz and calculus done by students today look very different, and the idea of existence may give us an insight as to why.
