Episode 005 - Mike Robertson: Current Challenges in Modern Basketball Physical Preparation

from Speed of Life Podcast · host Derek Hansen

Episode 005 of the Speed of Life Podcast dives into the physical preparation of basketball players with Mike Robertson.  We cover all levels of basketball including high school, college and the professional level, as they all have different constraints, challenges and needs.  With injuries always being an issue with the consistency and longevity of player seasons and careers, we discuss some of the key measures that can be taken to maximize player health and availability.  In the college game, the prevalence of the NCAA transfer portal and NIL opportunities, the dynamics of player development and career advancement have changed significantly from over 20 years ago.  High school players are finding it more difficult to attain full scholarships and have had to turn to alternative means of getting noticed.  We cover all of the complexities of today’s basketball landscape and Mike offers his thoughts on how to give players the best chance of success at any level.  Mike Robertson is one of the most well-known coaches, consultants, speakers and writers in the fitness industry today.  Known for his “no-nonsense” approach to coaching and program design, Mike has made a name for himself as a go-to resource for professional athletes from every major sport, but especially in the world of basketball.  Mike is the President of Robertson Training Systems and the co-owner of Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training (IFAST) in Indianapolis, Indiana. IFAST has been named one of the Top 10 Gyms in America by Men’s Health magazine three times in the past six years.  Last but not least, Mike is a devoted husband to his wife Jessica, and father to his children.
