With a wooden spoon, mix butter into mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in sugar, vanilla, and egg. Sprinkle salt and baking soda over mixture and mix in. Add flour last and mix. Pour mixture into a buttered 4"x8" loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a wire rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.
