Episode 013 – Pine Gap: Australia's Secret Listening Post
from Weird Crap in Australia Hosted by The Modern Meltdown
Located outside Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Pine Gap is a highly classified Australian–United States intelligence facility. Its role in satellite communications and intelligence gathering has made it an important part of the two countries' security relationship—and a frequent subject of public scrutiny and speculation. What does Pine Gap actually do, and what role does it play in international intelligence operations? Holly and Matthew explore the facility's history, its role as a listening post, and the questions surrounding one of Australia's most secretive sites. *** Sources cited: Walker, Steven. 2019.
