Episode 017: "Community"

from Learn For 2 Podcast · host Brandon DeVere

“Community"  Well… I’m back from a charity softball tournament from last weekend. And I’ll be honest, I didn’t play that great but it was still an awesome experience.  This tournament started 16 years ago for a woman we called "Mouse" that I played with many years ago that was diagnosed with cancer, to help her live out her final days as comfortably as possible.  The tournament has been named “The Mouseabout"  Now, each year the money is raised to give to other recipients.  This year there were two recipients that split over $15k in donations raised.  I thought about this community that I grew up in and how amazing it is.  It reminds me why I want to surround myself with people just like it, in both business and personal life.  I want to have a community of people that have heart, drive, and vision.  A community that is filled with people who want to lift each other up when they are down, and express gratitude when they are up.  This community, my hometown, is the same one I spoke about when I spoke about my mother in episode 5.  They are special.  At one point while watching another game I saw one of the recipients talking to one of the players, Angela, who I also played with when playing with Mouse.  The recipient looked at her and told her how grateful she was to be receiving these donations that we were raising.  Angela then hugged her and said, “it was an honor to play for you”.  I got chills when she said that, and have them as I write this.  I too was honored to be a part of this and playing for her.  Although we played a softball tournament, it was about more than that.  It was much bigger than just a game.  Yeah, our team struggled and were eliminated early, but just by being there we came out as winners.  Experiencing this is a reminder that solidifies that I know I am on the right path as I build my own community.  A community of builders and givers, that not only want success for themselves but also want to contribute to their tribe as we grow this thing together.  I will never downplay the importance of…  Community
