Episode 02 - Star Trek: Voyager

from The EscapeGoat Podcast

In this episode, I'm joined by my friend Isobel McNally to discuss the television series Star Trek: Voyager (UPN, 1995-2001). Isobel and I discuss our childhood and adolescent Trek fandom, where Voyager sits in our regards, and how it's aged in our eyes, and those of the wider Trek community. We review some of our highlights (and lowlights) of the seven seasons of Voyager, and talk a little bit about where the franchise has been more recently, and our current relationship with all things Trek. (N.B. this episode was recorded with two episodes left to air of Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard, so although we touch on it briefly, we didn't think it was fair to properly review it. Suffice it to say, the last two episodes didn't do much to improve either of our opinions of it.)  0.00 Intro - first experiences with Star Trek 0.10 Star Trek: Voyager (general discussion/themes and characters) 0.49 Voyager Seasons 1-3  1.23 Voyager Seasons 4-7 1.50 More recent Star Trek and opinions of it/wrap up You can find the show on Twitter at @EGoat_pod (or get David on @D_Faggiani) and email us with any feedback on [email protected]. All original intro, outro and other incidental music written, recorded and made available by kind permission of Richard Gilbert. Isobel is a full time Nomad (not unlike the crew of the USS Voyager) who travels from home to home, house-sitting and exploring new places. She writes about her reflections on the road, and her blog, house-sitting booking form, and online shop can be found here: https://www.thenomadlifestyle.co.uk/ NOTES For information on the quite-frankly unbelievable (on every level) 'Jamake Highwater', Voyager's fradulent Native American consultant, this Indian Country Today piece from 2015 is a good start. The Irish media blogger and critic Darren Mooney has written an  intimidatingly thorough and insightful collection of essays on every single episode of Star Trek: Voyager. They can found on his website themoveieblog.com here (scroll to the bottom for the catalogue) - very much recommended. Other sources you might enjoy are the Trekabout podcast, who covered almost all of Star Trek: Voyager - and, more generally, on wider Trek, the Vaka Rangi collection of essays by Josh Marsfelder, and the ongoing The Pensky Podcast by Wes Teasdale and Clay McCormack (and other guests).
