Episode 021 with 'rosetan' the band

from The Junkyard Love Podcast · host Jacob Rhines

Rosetan is a guitar trio whom I work with closely and enjoy life with often. This group consists of Jake Carrol, Jake Wilson, and Erik Nordin. Flexing their small town sounds the last few months, this group has been making their rounds to different shapes and sizes of venues - and bringing with them an enthralling soundscape. With a boy's attitude, a teenager's anger, and a man's craftsmanship - Rosetans music reaches into your chest, asks "who's doing the breathing here?" and starts pumping your damn heart for you. We open the podcast with a fan favorite of theirs - "ii" (known to some as "baseball") and then I and the boys begin our trek through the rosetan journey thus far. We touch on how things got started and we cover backgrounds of the members, each with drastically different paths to here. We talk about the music community and working with more than just the core members to build something more pristine. We chat about the importance and difference in mentors and teachers, the boys give intro guitar players some tips, we talk about beginner musicians and artists - and we expand in-depth on our growing views of the community as we become older and wiser men. Being a 20 something artist or musician is frustratingly beautiful. We help each other talk through various devices, spread some ideas towards new musicians, and then we touch on some of our own music interests at the moment. We chat about fears and insecurities through musicianship, being in a band and community, and the 4 of us find easy words to express our appreciation for one another as musicians and friends. We take turns dropping loads of song recommendations and delve deeper into the mind of the musician to round things out. Being with this group so often has pushed my boundaries as an artist, engineer, and musician and I couldn't possibly be more grateful. Look out for more songs from these 3 outliers in the coming year, and support them on Bandcamp or at your local brewery. Cheers!
