After kidnapping Poirier, Blom took her to a remote location and murdered her. Unfortunately, her body was found on August 23, 1999, about three weeks after her abduction. This discovery led to the arrest of Donald Blom. During the trial, evidence and witness testimonies pointed to Donald Blom as the perpetrator. He was convicted of first-degree murder and kidnapping in March 2000 and subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
