Episode 09: Let's talk about all things: spooky, scary, thrillers, and horror in books!

Marisa and Mary are back! This time to talk about middle grade and teen books that are varying levels of spooky, scary, thriller, and horror. Marisa's first book was Thirteens by Kate Alice Marshall. A spooky middle grade pick. Grieving Eleanor moves to an all too perfect town where she meets other teens who tell her not to talk about the odd spectral things she sees. Little does she know time is running out on an ancient deal. Marisa's second book was ALSO by Kate Alice Marshall. It is Rules for Vanishing, a high school horror and mystery title. This book has ghosts, a mysterious road, blood and deaths. This was not the book she thought it was when she picked it up, but thoroughly  enjoyed it. We also delve into the varying levels of scary.  Mary talked about the graphic novel Hotel Dare by Terry Blas and Claudia Aguirre (illustrator). A perfect middle grade graphic that combines mystery and science fiction.  Mary's second book was Last Girls by Demetra Brodsky, a great thriller survival story about sisterhood and survival and end of the world preppers.  Books we talked about this episode: Marisa's books: Thirteens by Kate Alice Marshall.
