Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure?), short for "costume play",[1] is type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Characters are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan. Favorite sources include manga, anime, tokusatsu, comic books, graphic novels, video games, hentai and fantasy movies. Role play includes portrayals of J-pop and J-rock stars, Taiwanese puppet characters, science fiction characters, characters from musical stories, classic novels, and entertainment software. Any entity from the real or virtual world that lends itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject. Inanimate objects are given an anthropomorphic forms and it is not unusual to see genders switched, with women playing male roles and vice versa. Never ask a cosplayer for their phone number or other personal information. They may not be comfortable giving it out. Ask for an e-mail instead. - Let the Cosplay position themselves for the shots. It looks more realistic that way. -Don't criticize another cosplayer an outfit is an outfit no matter what it is made out of. -Match up your costume according to your body size. This tends to be tougher for women. Not all outfits may work for you. You don't always have to show skin. Have respect for yourself. If you are a full-figured or plus-size find outfits that are not so tight. -Always make or buy your outfits in advance and check your measurements they may change over time.
