EPISODE 1: Folk Horror, Part 1 - "The Blood On Satan's Claw" (1971)

Welcome to the premiere episode of Stabby Road! For the next three episodes, the Stabby Roadsters look at the theme of Folk Horror, with each co-host selecting their favorite film from their particular era of horror history. ******* Episode One (today, Sept. 15): The Blood On Satan's Claw (1971), often referred to by people smarter than us as the progenitor of the Folks Horror genre. Presented by our resident Boomer, Joe Sena of Fourth Castle Brands (Fearwerx.com, The Monster Channel and more). Episode Two (next Thursday, Sept. 22): The VVitch (2015), one of A24's earliest entries in what snobby fans refer to as "elevated horror". Presented by our resident Millennial, the lovely Sonia Harcourt, award-winning adult performer most likely known for her production of the porn parody Whorrifier. Episode Three (Thursday, September 29): Midsommar (2019), another A24 that a lot of women like to show their idiot boyfriends as a warning. Presented by our resident Gen-Xer, award-winning filmmaker and sometime director of Sesame Street (yes, you read that right) Rob Graydon. ******* So as you may have guessed, we futzed around with which generation represents which film, but rest assured, the oldest film in this series is covered by undoubtedly the oldest member of the cast.  In this episode: we talk about how 1970s audiences still portrayed earth religions as works of evil, how adults at the time truly feared that young hippies would take over and destroy the world (well, they did, but only after they became Yuppies and sucked the planet dry of money and natural resources), how it was apparently OK for British producers to show an underage girl completely naked onscreen, and how the producers thought a poorly-lit papier-mache mask would scare anybody.
