Episode 1 - Nebraska
from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil
"Nebraska" Alexander Payne's critically acclaimed new comedic drama is a bittersweet tale in monochrome hues. Bruce Dern has gotten universal accolades (including the Best Actor Prize at Cannes) for his wry portrayal of a senile man who believes there is a million dollar prize waiting for him in the titular midwestern state. It would seem that Dern's character (Woody) received a junk letter informing him he won a million dollars. Woody travels from Wyoming with his son, David (played by Will Forte) who indulges his dad in this one request, even though he knows it is a fool's errand. Along the way, David tries to cope with his dad's alcohol habit and run-ins with former friends who now crave a piece of Woody's winnings. "Nebraska" is almost universally praised. Phil was not particularly a fan of this film, whereas Andrew most certainly was.
