This holiday is celebrated from sunset Oct 31 to sunset Nov 1 and marks the times of harvests and the beginning of the dark and dying season of winter in Ireland. Considered the transition from summer to winter, it represents the New Year in many pagan practices. It was a time to honor and commune with the dead (ancestors) and pay homage to the sidhe (fae) as the partition between the human world and the Otherworld was lessened at this time of year.
