Either way, I found myself stopping everything and really listening—not just hearing, but listening. For the first time, I looked up the lyrics, reading them as the song played, and suddenly, they hit differently.I knew that Eddie Van Halen had written this song at a pivotal moment in his life. He was newly sober, facing the raw reality of life without the haze of addiction. Through the help of his therapist, he had been encouraged to take stock of where he was, who he was, and what lay ahead.
